DATE:
AUTHOR: Engrain

What was the initial challenge or limitation that led to this improvement?

The PDF generation service was running on severely outdated dependencies that prevented the container from being rebuilt through deployment pipelines. This blocked any future changes to PDF generation, including the upcoming Phase 2 PDF redesign and on-demand export features.

What was the improvement?

The PDF generation service dependencies were upgraded to current supported versions, restoring the ability to build and deploy the container through standard pipelines.

How was the improvement made?

  • Node upgraded from version 14 to version 18.

  • React upgraded from version 16 to version 18.

  • Webpack upgraded from version 3 to version 5.

  • Puppeteer upgraded to the latest supported version.

What’s improved with this change?

  • Pipeline unblocked: The PDF service container can now be rebuilt and deployed through standard pipelines.

  • Future-ready: Upcoming PDF design updates (Phase 2) and on-demand export generation can now be implemented and deployed.

  • No behavior change: Existing scheduled export PDF generation is unchanged.

When was this improvement released?

This update went live in May 2026.

How to get started?

No action is required. This update has been automatically applied to the PDF generation service.
